I believe that I'm cynical and jaded, although others may not see it in me. I can also view the world with wonderment and naivete, an innocent curiosity.

I like good restaurants and performing arts, but living in New Mexico puts some limits on those. I like the symphony and ballet, but not opera. I like musicals more than plays. I like most European cuisine, but not seafood; Chinese, but not Japanese; northern Thai but not southern.

The more I learn about US military history and foreign policy, the more of a pacifist I become. So why do I still do the Army thing, you ask? Because I do it well. I've been in the Army for almost 17 years. That's longer than anything else I've done in my adult life (aside from being a bachelor). Longer even than the 11 years I've spent in higher education. Like in that prison flick with Tom Hanks, you could say I've been institutionalized. And also, if not I then who? Who will fight the good fight? Who will be the guy in the white hat? Who will be the liberator of oppressed people? Like Krshna tells Arjun in the Bagavhad Gita, I have come to believe that this is my karma, and I am willing to accept it.

Along with that karma is also those years of higher education I mentioned. I started college right after high-school because everyone else seemed to be doing it, so it must be the right thing. That lasted two years. After four years of active duty, I decided that it was time in my life for me to have a college degree. Plus I needed the GI Bill money to cover rent. An associate's in welding was the beginning of a nine year run ending with two associate's, a bachelor's, and a master's. When I was actually in school because I wanted to be (and had a financial stake in it too) I was a much better student. Other students would ask me when I was going to graduate and get a "real job". Well, I believe "real jobs" are a myth. How much more real could working for the Army and fighting "the war on terror" be? Plus, I've had jobs and I've been in school, and I like school better. The only benefit of a job is that it pays a bit better than college. Send me a note if you really care to know all my majors along the way.

I work hard when I am being paid to solve peoples problems. But, when I'm off I enjoy having fun at least with as much effort as I put into work. I am a mechanical engineer. Not one of the smartest but I know how to work hard. Middle of the road type of smart guy. Not a straight A student come B's and C's. But that's enough about school and work. I enjoy the outdoors and activities such as hiking running and snowboarding. No matter what time of year there is always some activity that you can have fun doing. I enjoy spending time with family and friends as well. Being alone is fun but when you can spend time with others it makes the time more enjoyable. I have many friends that I have made throughout the years and many of them are still close. Also I am always meeting new people. I enjoy talking to all sorts of people and hearing many different opinions. I have a really open mind to everyone's points of view.

Bottom line: I love to have fun! Learning is one of life's greatest pleasures in my opinion. I love to philosophize and debate. I'm very athletic - I love hiking, snowboarding, skiing, swimming, scuba-diving, racquet ball, biking, roller blading, white water kayaking. Whether by plane, boat, or motorcycle, traveling is one of my all time favorite things to do, especially over seas, I've been around the world a bit. I love being creative, from programming or web design to welding and carpentry. Music is a passion as is Food. Life is wonderful, and I believe in living living it to it's absolute fullest!

I had five dogs (two Standard Poodles, one Miniature Poodle, one Miniature Poodle mix and one Chihuahua/Miniature Dachshund mix). They are awesome and live with my parents. Also, Poodles are serious business.

If my situation allowed it, I would adore having some dogs of my own. I'd treat them better than children. There's just something about mothering a pet, man.
